Welcome to our peer review space – and the opportunity to have your book proposal, screenplay or radio script reviewed by fellow writers.
The best writing – as voted for by you – wins a place in our chart, and the work that shows most promise will be reviewed by our expert panel of publishers, agents and producers.
What to do next:
Simply submit some brief details about your idea (including its title and genre) and a synopsis of the plot or contents, then upload your first three chapters or the first hour of a screenplay (at least 5,000 and not more than 15,000 words).
Then begin to review other writers' work while you await reviews of your own manuscript.
How to upload your work
If you haven't already done so, you'll need to register. Once you've done that, or logged in, you can add a manuscript.
Adding a description:
- Title - please type in the name of the manuscript.
- Author – put your name, or your pen name if this is different.
- Main genre – choose one from the list, which most closely describes your work.
- Other genres – click on any other genres that apply (hold the CTRL key down to select more than one).
- Summary – add a logline, or two-sentence description.
- Description - now provide a longer description of the plot or contents.
- Image - upload an image for your book jacket, or something that visually represents your manuscript.
Once you've saved these details you can attach your synopsis and first three chapters of your book by clicking the 'add attachment' link at the bottom of the page.
Uploading chapters:
If you are uploading chapters from a book, please make each of your three chapters a separate attachment. If you are uploading a screenplay or other type of manuscript (for example, illustrated spreads from a picture book or graphic novel), please divide them into three similar-sized sections.
Please upload pdf files only. If you are a Windows user and you don't already have the software to make pdfs download a pdf creator here. If you are a Mac user with OS X you already have the ability to save documents as pdf.
Alternatively use Open Office a free Open Source office package compatible with all comon file types which includes the ability to export as PDF. This is freely available on Linux, Macintosh and Windows.
How to review
This is a writing community, so we would like you to review three other writers' work before we publish your manuscript. As soon as it is published, your peers will be able to start reviewing – and rating – your manuscript.
To start reading and reviewing click on the attachments on the bottom left beneath the description of the piece of writing.
Assessment criteria
Use this handy rule of thumb when grading your peers’ writing:
4 or more stars This work deserves to be read by an agent or publisher.
3 stars The writing is accomplished but needs more work, perhaps on the story arc.
2 or fewer stars There are flaws, but with redrafting the idea could show promise.
